Dei Fratelli

I was disappointed to see the rating on your test of canned tomatoes. I have used a lot of those tested and I was very
impressed with Dei Fratelli tomato sauce.

I suppose the proof is all in the tasting, but for my taste, Dei Fratelli is the best canned tomatoes I ever cooked with.

I used to buy it at the Giant stores in the Binghamton area. They sold out to Weis Stores and Weis discontinued it.
Now we have to go to Buffalo for them.

I start with olive oil and add 1 clove of garlic, chopped, and saute.
Add one can of tomato paste and let it cook in the oil for a few minutes.
Add one can of Dei Fratelli canned tomato sauce
Add one/half can of water and stir into the sauce.
Add one small onion, peeled, (leave whole so you can remove it later)
Add one piece of green pepper (about 1x2" square)
Add one can V8 juice
Add several leaves of sweet basil (chopped)
Add several leaves of Italian parsley (chopped)
Add one tablespoon of salt
Add one tablespoon of sugar
Add one/half teaspoon black pepper.

Simmer for one hour. Then add several cooked meatballs and/or Italian sausage
Simmer for an additional hour. Remove the onion and pepper.
Serve over freshly made pasta.
