Nina

I recently tried the Via Roma San Marzano tomatoes and was disappointed. I am embarrassed to admit that I mixed two cans with two cans of Tuttoroso so maybe that is why I didn't love the sauce. At $3.59 a can I am glad I only bought two to try. Have you tried Via Roma? I also agree that Nina makes an excellent plum tomato but I can't wait to try their San Marzanos! Thank you for all of your recipes...love the website!

Canned Tomatoes

I totally agree that the quality of Nina peeled tomatoes has declined in the past month.

I thought it was just me until I read the comment above. Sclafani tomatoes were recommended my my good Italian friend and I have to say they were excellent. Francesconi tomatoes are good too,my friend purchased them from Little Italy in New York City and they are worth a try.

I also think Redpack is better than Progresso and Tuttorrosa.

So sad...
by:

I most recently re tested the Nina Plum tomato after a friend of mine tried them based off of my recommendation. Then later, about a week later, I received an email from one of my reader stating they were VERY disappointed with the quality.

I have RE-RATED Nina Plum tomatoes and am sad to say that they have dropped to the bottom of the barrel. They are now in competition with Tutto Rosso, Progresso and the like as a terrible canned tomato.

What a shame...
