History Of Fettucini Alfredo

The history of FETTUCINI ALFREDO and how it was created by Alfredo Di Lelio to appease his pregnant wife. I’m and this how the Alfredo sauce recipe became famous and stood the test of time. It began when Alfredo di Lelio created this Italian pasta recipe to appease his wife during her pregnancy. His wife was very ill during her pregnancy and found it difficult to eat anything. Unable to find anything appealing to her, he ran to the kitchen to create this this amazing Italian pasta recipe. The soothing nutmeg and mixture of butter and cream on top a bowl of warm fettucini was just what the doctor ordered. It was so delicious he decided to serve it in his restaurant and the rest is pasta history. His original restaurant in Rome named Alfredo alla Scrofa at Via Della Scrofa, (female pig) is near Piazza Navona and was established in 1914.

Word travelled quickly and soon it was discovered by two very famous Hollywood guests, Mary Pickford and Douglas Fairbanks during their honeymoon in Rome. They raved about the Italian pasta dish to everyone in Hollywood and from then on anyone who was anyone came to Alfredo’s restaurant for his famous fettucini Alfredo.

Although Alfredo retired and sold his restaurant, Alfredo Sauce recipe and all, to Mr. Mario Mozzetti which is still still in business to this day, in 1959 some local businessmen tracked down the famous Alfredo Lelio and offered to build him a new restaurant. Although he was retired he agreed to show up with true Italian charm as a greeter and a host. The new Alfredo ll location at 30 Piazza Augusto Imperatore is a few blocks from his original location.

Today Alfredo's II has become a very popular chain which boasts eating large amounts of pasta in true American style. It has locations near Rockefeller Center in New York, Orlando and Las Vegas.
